1943 FOCKE WULF 190

One of the legendary German fighter aircraft of World War II, the Focke-Wulf FW 190 was designed in 1938 by the German aircraft designer and test pilot Kurt Tank. Under a trade agreement concluded between Türkiye and Germany, 72 Focke Wulf 190 fighters entered the inventory of the Turkish Air Force between July 1942 and March 1943. Delivered factory-new, these fighters began their service with the 5th Regiment at Eskişehir. Türkiye is the only country in the world to have flown German-built FW 190s in full squadron service outside of and beyond World War II. Highly praised by Turkish pilots for their performance, these aircraft guarded the skies of the homeland until 1947, when the Air Force's transition to British and American aircraft led to their retirement.

The aircraft in our museum was returned to flying condition from the wreckage of an FW 190A-5 bearing construction number 1134, built in 1943 and lost in Northern France in 1944.

Acquired for the M.S.Ö. Air and Space Museum by Ali İsmet Öztürk in January 2025, the aircraft arrived at the Sivrihisar Aviation Center on May 8, 2025, and its restoration was carried out by the Mach Teknik Team. Prepared for flight through more than a year of meticulous work, the FW 190 was overhauled from its engine to its wings and adorned with the "Kare Fors" insignia of the glorious Turkish Air Force. The aircraft made its first flight in Türkiye on July 3, 2026, at the Sivrihisar Aviation Center. This flight went down in history as the first Focke Wulf 190 flight over Türkiye in 79 years. It is known that only eight Focke Wulf 190 fighters, with varying degrees of originality, remain airworthy in the world today.
